the water is never really blue (2022)

Inspired by the lotus flower’s resilience and symbolism of purity, the artwork the water is never really blue (2021) is a tribute to  the strength of the human spirit during the pandemic. The simplicity of forms represents finding comfort in the basics amidst unpredictability. The child-like colour palette honors the courage of young children facing disruptions in their lives. The five Koi fish symbolize hope for recovery as we gradually gather again, while the collaboration with composer Gu Wei infuses the artwork with themes of hope, childhood, and memories.
